The Comics.Community Podcast is a labor of love made possible by the volunteer efforts of a small band of comic book fans from the mid-Michigan area. Episodes are recorded bi-weekly, with special Previews episodes added once a month.
Thanks too to the kindness and support of the staff at Summit Comics and Games in downtown Lansing Michigan.
Ashlie – Next time you see her, please bug her nicely to add her profile 😉
Alec – Alec used to be the world’s angriest child. Then one day his mother bought him his first comic, The Mighty Thor Annual #14. After that, everything changed. Not everything, Alec is still very angry to this day. Alec has been active in the Lansing comics community for the last 15 years, with the last 6 years as store manager of your LCS, Summit Comics and Games. Away from the shop he still engages in the standard nerdy things, such as D&D, Magic, Heroclix, video gaming, complaining on the internet, and being convinced his opinion is the only right one. You can find such gaming on twitch.tv under the name ProfCounterflux and all of his correct opinions on twitter at ProfCounterflux as well.
Chris B. – Chris B. is a devout fan of sci-fi/fantasy pop culture. Having wandered into his local comic book store for the first time in the late 80’s, Chris’ on-again, off-again relationship with comics has seen its fair share of twists and turns. When he’s not trying to keep up with all that is right and good in fandom, Chris pays for his ever growing pull-list working as a user experience designer for desktop, web and mobile apps. You can find Chris on Twitter as chrisbanzai.
Jason – Jason’s torrent love affair with comics rekindled in the early 21st century when the independent & small press world of artists caught his fancy. He now tries, and mostly fails, at convincing listeners which titles in Previews are worth a dog ear. A warmhearted Libra, comic favorites include Island, Trees, Tokyo Ghost, Empowered, and anything by the baby angel hands of Mark Pearce.
Mitch – Mitch has been reading comics since he was 13 years old and his dad brought home a stack of Captain America comics from a garage sale. He’s collected Captain America comics old and new ever since and still thinks of the Star Spangled Avenger as his personal role model. His recent favorites are Saga, Thor: God of Thunder, and Grace Randolph’s Supurbia. When he’s not busy being a panelist on the Comics.Community podcast, you can find him at his own site zebunation.com (and on twitter as Zebu_Nation) and on a real-play Dungeons & Dragons podcast called Troll the Dice (explicit).
Phil – Phil’s been reading comics since 1979 when a copy of Marvel’s John Carter Warlord of Mars got him hooked. Too many collections and long boxes later, his current favorite comic titles include Clean Room, Dept. H, Island magazine, and Paper Girls. His all-time favorites include Miracleman, Wildcats 3.0, Planetary, and Alan Moore’s run on Swamp Thing. If you listen closely, Phil occasionally opens a window and lets out a tweet @p2geek.
Randy – Randy (a.k.a. Rando Calrissian) has been bitten by the comic bug since his dad brought home the 1990’s X-Men run of Jim Lee and Chris Claremont. That, coupled with the X-Men animated cartoon, made him a fan for life. When he’s not busy collecting and reading comics, you can catch him at his day-job as a Hero for Hire in the digital arts and also as a photographer/filmmaker at his own company, Silentflick Productions. You can check out the action at silentflick.com. Also, check out his cartoon, The Comic Redux.
Rafael – Rafael G. Revilla was designed in a secret underground military base as the worlds ultimate super soldier… but then found out about comics and the internet and hasn’t gotten much exercise since then. An avid fan of all things comic and Sci-Fi since his initial escape, Rafael can often be found perusing the local comic shop or searching for new and exciting sushi restaurants in his hometown of Lansing. To summon Rafael, simply say his name in the mirror 3 times backwards – we hear he gives piggy back rides.
Ruben – Next time you see him, please bug him nicely to add his profile 😉
Travis – Next time you see him, please bug him nicely to add his profile 😉
These folks may not be on our current schedule, but their contributions to episodes-past have forever earned them a place on our Reservist list…
Chris M. – Christopher Morse is an actor, writer and podcaster. His podcast, Supervillain Corner, won the 2012 Parsec Award for Best Comedy/Parody Podcast. When not writing or reading comic books he can be found spending time with his wife and newborn son. You can find him on twitter at SuperCorner.
Darrol – Darrol has a passion for all-things-entertainment-media; whether it’s music, movies, books, games, or internet. Now relocated on the West Coast, Darrol continues to contribute to the podcast as a remote panelist. Some of his favorite comic book series over the years have also been the same series he grew up with during the 1990s, including Silver Surfer, Venom, Spider-Woman, Batman, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As a music artist spanning 16 years, Darrol has several solo-projects. One of these projects is a space-rock opera with a comic book veneer called MR. JELLYFISH: DEFENDER OF THE EARTH, and is undergoing production for the second album. Check out MR. JELLYFISH at the official website, mrjellyfish.bandcamp.com, and check out production updates at facebook.com/MR.JELLYFISH.
Maggie – Coffee addict. Star Wars Fanatic. Made of 90% Cat Fur. Maggie’s adventures in geekdom started young, as she was practically raised on the original Star Wars Trilogy and the first 150 PokèMon (Bulbasaur’s the best!!). Comics were a format Maggie didn’t really get into until fall of 2012. Now an avid reader, she enjoys many titles from all the different genres available. Some of her current favorites include She-Hulk, Saga, Alex + Ada, Coffin Hill, and Silver Surfer. Though reclusive, you can find her on Twitter as CatOnMyShirt.
